Following the installation, which was carried-out by Perth-based Scottish Communication Systems (SCS), all cameras in the harbour area now link back to a purpose built control room with multi-screen viewing and full digital recording capability.
The new installation also ensures that vehicular and pedestrian traffic is managed in and out of the harbour area through a PC-based Access Control System controlling all gates and barriers. Visitors with no authorised access can communicate with the control room by an audio system. The control room can monitor the caller by CCTV and open the relevant gate or barrier.
Paul Gibson, managing director of SCS, said: “The installation is in effect the same as a town centre surveillance system and we are confident it will help in the day-to-day running of this busy port.”
The expanded CCTV cover is part of improved safety and security measures at Aberdeen, a world class port which handles around four million tonnes of cargo annually
