The work involves repairing and painting all sections of the bridge, including the repair and replacement of walkways.
To aid this complex process, personnel from Atkins are using six waterproof Entel UHF hand-held radios supplied by Scottish Communications. The radios are used for communication between workers and an operating vessel working below.
The operation involves screening the area to be painted so as to prevent debris contaminating the Firth of Forth and the surrounding environment. Up to 230,000 square metres of steel will be stripped back and painted during the current program and this year alone 10,000 litres of paint will be used.
