Major CCTV contract for Scottish Communication Systems

Perth-based security equipment specialist Scottish Communications has won a £400,000 contract in the Forth Valley area to supply and install equipment for a centralised, digital CCTV control suite in Alloa.

This suite in Alloa replaces four existing control rooms across the Central Scotland Police Force area. When it becomes operational, it will provide all monitoring, recording and telemetry control for the public open space CCTV systems owned by Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Councils.

Work has commenced on site and the launch date is scheduled for January 2005. Scottish Communications will be installing FAST technology and will also be providing a five-year maintenance package to cover control room equipment.

The FAST equipment utilises the latest Digital Video Archiving Technology to provide high quality recorded images for all CCTV cameras across the region. These pictures can be instantly retrieved by Central Scotland Police review officers based in the control room, and then distributed out for analysis to the required police stations within seconds, and then if required onward to court for prosecution support.

FAST is a Swiss based company, which has grown to be a worldwide force in the advance of digital technology. They are represented in the UK by Scottish based Sigma group, who have worked closely with Scottish Communications in the design of the system.

The Scottish Communications installation team, under the leadership of Technical Manager, Brian Hibbert have recently returned from intensive training at FAST’s Zurich headquarters.

On completion, it is anticipated that the centralised suite will assist the Forth Valley CCTV Partnership to make best use of the CCTV systems and to benefit from up-to-date technology to widen the range of potential applications.

Scottish Communications Managing Director Paul Gibson said that winning this tender was an extremely important step forward for the company, reflecting the commitment and investment that the company is putting into embracing this new technology.

“The Scottish Communications team are looking forward to working closely with the client’s management team, and the manufacturers of the equipment to create what will be one of the most technically advanced CCTV control rooms in the UK,” said Mr Gibson.
