The mobile phone was presented to First Response Scotland volunteers Mark Pearson and Will Hendry to equip their new quick-reaction ambulance vehicle. First Response Scotland was formerly launched at RAF Leuchars earlier this month and involves volunteers who are members of the armed forces responding to emergency calls on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
The new initiative in Scotland follows on from the success of similar schemes in England. The volunteers receive both medical and driver training from the ambulance service, with the strategic location of the First Response vehicle often helping to save valuable seconds and minutes during emergency calls.
Scottish Communications director, Dominic Warre, said: ‘This is an excellent scheme which in England has already saved dozens of lives. We are delighted to have been able to help the First Response Scotland team at RAF Leuchars by donating the mobile phone.’
